Obituary of Larry Wykert

Larry Wykert, 78, of Savannah, MO, passed away on May 12, 2021 in his home of Savannah, MO. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. CST Tuesday, May 18, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in St. Joseph, MO and via Zoom with Bishop Brad Cochran of St. Joseph Second Ward officiating. Arrangements are by Simplify Cremations & Funerals. Larry was born in Troy, KS, March 14, 1943 to Charles and Evelyn (Caine) Wykert. Larry was a jeweler by trade, owner and operator of his business L.C. Jewelry until his retirement in 2017. He was a veteran and served in the Navy. He was actively involved in his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, since the time of his baptism in 1981. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and earning Cabela’s rewards points. Those close to him were often met with his dry wit and sense of humor. Larry is preceded in death by his older brother, Gary Lee Wykert; his parents; and his sons-in-law, Jerry Coats and Wayne Matson. Larry married Pamela Spiers in 1978; she survives of the home. Additional survivors include his children, Jeanne (David) White, Olathe, KS, Charles “Chris” (Teresa) Wykert, Maryville, MO, Chrystel (Harlen) Wilkinson, St. Joseph, MO, Kenneth Wykert, Bonne Terre, MO, Kevin (April “Sam”) Wykert, Maysville, MO, Cathy Coats, Union Star, MO, David Wykert, Jefferson City, MO, Gary Wykert, Savannah, MO, and Elisabeth (Daniel) Sanders, St. Joseph, MO; his 3 sisters, Betty Losson, Mary Lou Blanton, and Helen Grissom; along with his 23 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. The family of Larry wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the St. Joseph area members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who have given numerous acts of service and love to the Wykert family over the past four decades. The Wykert family is grateful for the friendships and bonds formed throughout the entire St. Joseph community who have become like family in their life. Additional thanks to Dr. Robert Zink for “touching Larry’s heart,” Three Rivers Hospice, DaVita Dialysis, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and all those who provided comfort for Larry’s health.
